Mumbai’s King’s Circle Ganapati idol insured for over Rs 51 crore per day

New Delhi/Mumbai: The GSB Seva Mandal Ganapati idol has fetched a whopping insurance worth Rs 259 crore outmatching Mumbai’s popular Ganesh idol known as Lalbaugcha Raja and its massive marquee, as per news report.

Last year, the mandal’s diety was insured for Rs 223-crore.

Based on the estimate of keeping the idol, it has been calculated that is that since King’s Circle mandal keeps its Ganapati idol for five days, the insurance comes at Rs 51.7 crore per day, news reports said. The idol of lord Ganesh has been adorned with gold worth Rs. 22 crore.

Meanwhile Lalbaugcha Raja, has been insured for Rs. 51 crore by New India Assurance.

GSB Seva Mandal Ganapati idol offers protection against damage to the idol, gold, mandap and devotees from threats such as fire, terrorist attacks and even riots. The insurance cover begins from the first day till the last day of immersion.

The festival, marking the birth of elephant-headed Hindu god Ganesh will begin on Friday and will continue for the next 10 days till September 9.

Ganesh idols are worshipped for 10 days and on the 11th, the statues are taken through the streets in processions accompanied with dancing, singing and fanfare to be immersed in sea, symbolising a ritual see-off of the god.
